Nif Nasty’s been releasing old tracks from his stash for a few months now on the Siccness forums. I wish he’d just put these all on a mixtape and save me the trouble but whatever. “Wanted” fronts like it’s gonna be all moody and atmospheric like “Thriller” or something. Then the bass kicks in and tramples everything in its path. This bass is fucking NASTY (actually I wonder if that bass is combined with a tuba now). Add to that some banging 808 drums and all those horror movie atmospherics on the hook and this is a monstrous beat.

I quit.

This is the best rapping I’ve heard from Nif Nasty aka the Dank City Boy. He’s snapping on this track: “Shorty want a thug, but shorty really need a job/ So she can move into her own crib and move out of Mom’s.” It’s hella greasy and I don’t give a fuck.

Gangsta Gold Macnificent spits a dope verse over haunting keys and strings. He breaks down the choice of whether or not to live a life of crime into a decision between: 1. living like a man who can provide for himself; or 2. living like a 40-year-old deadbeat whino drinking tall cans and 40′s whose baby mama doesn’t even respect him enough to let him see his son. He’s got a pretty vivid imagination.

I would never have expected Gangsta Gold Macnificent to hop on a beat like this but here he is, spitting punchline-fueled playerisms over something you might’ve heard on a Lyricist Lounge or Roots tape back in 1996. Enlightened rappers and rap fans these days love pointing out that the division between “gangsta” and “backpack” is disappearing. But y’know it’s nice when someone doesn’t have to announce it like they want a medal for being so goddamn smart or something. Macnificent just goes ahead and crosses that line between “gangsta” and “backpack” and doesn’t seem to care too much about it, which is great because then I can chill out that much more easily with the ill beat.

On a side note, I fully advocate for the use of “Dankcity” over “Daygo.” The track is from Macnificent’s latest mixtape (or album?), Da Dankcity Boy, which you can get if you live in SD and have any street cred at all. Obviously, I will never get my hands on a copy.
