Video: Dubble O Beez ft. Harmoney – Tatted Up

I’m assuming it’s Wiz Khalifa’s popularity that’s made tattoos all trendy now, or at least trendy enough that young rappers will brag about getting fly-ass tattoos (I can’t imagine Gucci Mane’s face cream cone has made tattoos more appealing). It’s good to be reminded then that tats have meaning or should have meaning and that people still take their ink to heart.

I think the beat was made by Amer The Gamer because this song comes from his compilation, Customer Service. Interesting that the drums and bass here sound like the drums and bass as “Sucka MC’s” except thrown in reverse.

Dubble 0 Beez (that’s a zero, by the way) covers Run-DMC’s classic from 1983. I like the beat, how it recalls old school hip-hop with the scratches, the scratch hits, and the minimalistic, drum machine-driven beats. But at the same time, something as simple as a constant piano tone and thicker bass puts a twist on the formula and keeps the beat fresh. It’s a smart, subtle way of paying homage without just rehashing/biting old school classics.

More summery goodness from Young Sau, this time with the help of Dubble-0-Beez. The two of them are planning a collaboration album called Monkey Beezness. “Summer in Diego” is appropriately warm and breezy. The raps are easy-going. It sounds like San Diego.

I swear, actual writing will soon follow. Patience ……
