This takes clear inspiration from Chappelle Show and actually works really well as a standalone sketch. There’s the universal message of confidence and individual identity. But then there’s also a comment on racial disparity in social situations. And it’s funny in an outrageous way but also in a self-deprecating way. That’s pretty much everything Chappelle Show was.

I vaguely remember this beat being apart of Black Mikey’s Killafornia Infection collab album with Ridley. It’s a stupidly sick beat but it makes me worry even more that that album will never see completion/release (damn, how dumb do I feel for writing a whole story about it? My editors will never trust me again).

Here’s an old interview on Youtube where Dominique Gilbert comes out of the El-Gun Legro character and talks about it specifically as a character that he’s portraying. It’s pretty entertaining on its own because he’s just a funny dude (the Youtube video description calls him the next Jamie Foxx). But it’s also interesting to see how it evolved from a weirdo joke into something … well, better, or something more than just a complete joke.
After the jump, you can check out a couple more videos. One is a music video dedicated to burritos and features another rapper named Rio De Jae Negro. The second finds him engaging in various shenanigans on the court. Basically, you can see how the whole El-Gun concept could’ve easily become just this complete joke. Mostly posting this for weird factor. Trina is performing this Friday at this lesbian bar called The Flame Ultra Lounge in Hillcrest. Miki Vale is hosting along with her group The [Sis]tem. It’s odd enough seeing Trina and The [Sis]tem on the same bill. But I guess I’m more tripped out at the idea of Trina using her sexuality in a lesbian context. No shots; it’s just eye-opening for me. And I might have to be that one random dude in a lesbian bar this Friday just to check it out. This is gonna be so awkward.
