Roots Factory: 2Mex, Brother Nature, Odessa Kane, Old English … and Gonjasufi?

A good lineup in its own right. But the Reader’s Gonjasufi article this week said Sufi’s record release party for MU.ZZ.LE is the same night. Does that mean he’s making a surprise appearance? Anyone have the scoop?

Lyrical Skoolyard: Aceyalone, Blame One, Dannu + more

Free show. Acey The Aceman, Blame, Dannu, Odessa Kane, Nomis, Aaron Evans, too many more reasons. It’s all the way up in North County but this is pretty damn good as far as local lineups go. If I can find a ride up there, I’m there.

San Diego Hip Hop Potluck/BBQ/Toy & Can Food Drive

Unfortunately, I can’t make it this Sunday (because some people can’t get their birthday parties straight). But if you’re at all into hip-hop and reside in San Diego, you should come through. As for parking, you’ll likely have to park at The Convention Center OR try getting a drink at Joe’s Crab Shack and dipping out the side door to use their parking (OR just beat up the Joe’s Crab Shack parking attendant). I’m awkward and still had some fun last time.

Hip Hop Is Dead With Odessa Kane, Piff PCH, Old English, Parker & The Numberman and more

I wrote about this at SoundDiego, y’know, so that more than 10 people can hear about it. But they fcked around and didn’t throw up my blog post. Go to this. I know it’s short notice. But even if you’re just hearing about this and it’s already started, go anyway. Stuff’s going down until 2am. Too many good SD artists gonna be rocking this. A can’t miss opportunity for anyone even remotely interested in anything on this site.

Ticket Giveaway: More Andre Nickatina at HOB

UPDATE III: Congrats to the winners: Victor, Kelley, Erica, Justin, and Thalia! All you need to do now is go to the HOB Ticket Office when you get to the show and show your ID. More ticket giveaways coming soon!

UPDATE II: Sent the confirmation email a few hours ago. Waiting on one more person to reply. Check your inboxes!

UPDATE: Geez, no computer love for Andre Nickatina? Since that’s the case, just leave a comment saying you want the tickets. Include a working email address so I can contact you, thanks.

I have more tickets to see Andre Nickatina. He’s performing at House of Blues next Wednesday, October 5.

Here’s the deal: I have five (5) more pairs of tickets to the Andre Nickatina show. First five people to leave a comment telling me their favorite song out of Old English’s Top 5 SD Hip-Hop Songs get on the guestlist +1 for the show.

Rules: 1. When leaving a comment here, you must include a valid email address; 2. You must respond to the “Congratulations” email within 48 hours to claim your prize; 3. Winners from the previous Andre Nickatina giveaway (for the same show) cannot win again. If you break one of these rules, your prize goes to the next commenter in line.

If you don’t luck out here, you can buy tickets for the show at the House of Blues website.

Ticket Giveaway: Rock The Bells San Diego with Raekwon, Ghostface, Mobb Deep

UPDATE II: Contest is over! Congrats to Christie, Michael, Diamond, Leon, and Angel!

UPDATE: The message has been sent out. Contestants, please check your email. You have until Friday at 7pm PST to claim your prize.

Not SD music-related clearly. But I’m gonna use these free tickets to bribe at least a few of you into a cursory knowledge of SD rap history.

Here’s the deal: I have FIVE (5) pairs of tickets to Rock The Bells San Diego with Raekwon, Ghostface, and Mobb Deep. The first five people to name their favorite Gangsta Ern song in the comments section (HINT! HINT!) gets on the guestlist for the show +1.

Rules: 1. When leaving a comment, you must include a valid email address; 2. You must respond to the Congratulations email within 48 hours to claim your prize. If you break one of these rules, your prize goes to the next commenter in line.

For those who don’t want to try their luck, you can buy tickets for yourself at Live Nation here. Good luck to the rest. And of course, RIP Gangsta Ern.

Old English at U-31 Tonight

Real quick before I jet to Comic-Con, Old English is performing tonight at U-31. I’ll probably also be there, possibly dressed as a zombie (this weekend is when my nerd shit and my hip-hop shit collide). I’m also hoping that “The Best of Party Rock/Hip Hop/Dance Music” translates into “All Underground Hip Hop For You Suckaz” and maybe Saviorself convinces Kid Wonder to mix in some obscure SD rap. But whatever, just a thought. Come out and have a couple drinks.

Ticket Giveaway: Andre Nickatina at HOB 10/5/2011

UPDATE II: Contest is over! Congrats to the five winners: Tim, John, Tommy, Maihan, and Sameer! If you didn’t get tickets this time, we might have more in the future!

UPDATE: We still have ONE more pair of tickets left for this show. Don’t be afraid to leave a comment!

Andre Nickatina is coming down to San Diego on October 5 as part of the Money Shark Tour. I’ll tell you the truth: I know very little about Andre Nickatina besides the fact that he’s from the Bay and one of my favorite rap blogs (though now, it’s essentially defunct), Cocaine Blunts, was named after an Andre Nickatina lyric. That alone is reason enough to check me out for me to check out (sorry, I was drunk when I wrote this).

Anyway, I have five (5) pairs of tickets to giveaway. I’ma try to keep it simple this time: leave a comment with the artist and song title of any San Diego hip-hop song (here’s a hint: THEY’RE EVERYWHERE ON THIS SITE IF YOU JUST BROWSE FOR TWO SECONDS). First five comments win their name on the guestlist +1.

Tickets for this show are on-sale now at the House of Blues website.

And sorry that all that’s being featured now is a bunch of events. Real content to start up again next week, I think for sure.

San Diego Hip Hop Potluck BBQ this Sunday

Like a month ago or more, someone started this “Daygo hip hop” group on Facebook. You could only get in by invite but it’s already amassed close to 900 people. More importantly, it’s become the new online message board-ish area for artists and everyone to connect, check out music, and actually talk about stuff. If you’re not already a member, you should probably find someone who can invite you and join the discussion (though I do wonder at what point too many people will be talking and it’ll all become an indecipherable clutter; hopefully, not soon).

This Sunday’s potluck-BBQ is an open invite to pretty much anyone with even a passing interest in hip-hop to come meet up with each other. Rappers, break dancers, DJ’s, graf heads, bloggers (because blogging is the fifth element of hip-hop?), and everyone else is welcome.

Orko Eloheim, Tenshun, Parker Edison, Piff PCH Herrera at Kava Lounge This Wednesday

Why am I just getting wind of this over the past weekend? I would’ve totally blown this up a lot more if I could’ve. I’ve never heard Coastal Ninja or No Face. But if the company surrounding them is any indication–Orko, Tenshun, Parker, and Piff (… and Circle Empire?)–they’re likely to be pretty dope. I know I missed like three of the four events I’d planned on attending last week (to my credit, the Trina show was sold out on pre-sale [and hella expensive!] and, um, I was too drunk to drive to the chikle x Makeshift thing). But I will definitely not miss this show unless like Jesus Christ immaculately re-conceptualizes in my womb or something (sequel to Junior, anyone?). So yeah, barring the re-birth of Christ and shit, I will be there on Wednesday and so should you!

Happy Belated to Orko!
