Video: Ocean – Mezmorized
Ocean, also known as Juk’n from Tha Wrongkind (or Tha Youngkind, I guess), goes in over a Wiz Khalifa instrumental and wins just from the sheer truth of his lyrics. Like goddamn. Lines like “But we ain’t choose this life, we us because we us/ Can’t understand why millionaires wanna be us, n*gga free us/ If you got it like that” and “We’ll probably never understand that cheese is just a mice trap” just leave me stunned. After that, he relates the details of some of his friends who’ve gone down to prison and how that’s motivated him to rap, so he could avoid going down that route. It’s just straight-up inspirational, his high level of maturity and empathy supported by the down-to-earth details of his real life. It also doesn’t hurt that he seems to be one of the more technically gifted members of Tha Wrongkind.
Anyway, my bad about being a day late. Been fighting a cold this weekend. I’ll try to have a make-up post sometime this week.
