Throwback Raps: San Diego History Mix (vol. 1)

DOWNLOAD: Steven Flex (of Fam Royal) – San Diego History Mix (vol. 1)

I stumbled upon this ridiculous podcast from the Fam Royal DJ crew that runs through San Diego hip-hop from 1988 to 1998. It’s crazy to think that San Diego hip-hop history on record would even date as far back as 1988. DJ Steven Flex not only provides the mix but he also runs through the tracklist, speaking briefly about the history of each artist on each track. This mix includes cats like Legion of Doom, Tony Da Skitzo, Mr. Brady, LPSD, and a lot more. Check out his post here. It’s a veritable goldmine for anyone interested in San Diego hip-hop history (which is basically just me, hah).

I’m glad it came from Steven Flex. I’d be happy if Rickey Rick or Jam even did one.

Damn!!! I was checking out some of SD’s newest spittaz and naturally gravitated to the “Throwback Raps”, and low and behold I see this post. Glad somebody remember who was out here trying to make it crack before the internet made this shit ohso cheezy and easy!!

That whole Low Cal Ep was a snapshot of that time. We had Orko to Hesu!! Now how diverse was that project? Glad I was a part of it. And glad somebody besides me liked my “Stop The Violence” joint.

And like I tell cats who always sniffing to see if a nigga retired, “Old producers don’t die, we just stopped fuckin’ wit you broke cats cuz wasn’t no R.O.I. in it for ya boy!!!” Big shouts out the old heads that inspired me: Steve “That Genius Muthaphucka” Vicious; Milky Wayne; Tos (Insomniacs); Lysol, Phil (Milky Wayne’s dude) and the most slept on producer who always had bangers that made me step my game up, Colin aka The Surfer Dude.

Maybe one day we’ll all link up for a Low Cal reunion joint. And I’ll even invite Bo!! LOL!!

    oNe Luv…
